Port Orchard FC Savors Shutout Win In Maple Valley

COVINGTON, WA—Port Orchard Football Club improved to 5-0-0 on the season with a 3-0 shutout win over Bigfoot FC 2 on Thursday night June 19 at Maxwell Stadium in Maple Valley. Goalkeepers Austin Valdez and Landon Gordon combined with a motivated set of defenders and overall team effort to earn the clean sheet.

POFC’s win over a Rainier Division foe puts the club at 4-0-0 on 12 points and in first place. Earlier in the week it was announced that Midlakes United dropped out of the CPL1. Port Orchard’s July 11 away match in Bellevue was converted to a 1-0 forfeit win. The news meant POFC had gained 9 standing points in less than a week. On June 13 PO beat WPFC Legends in Puyallup, 5-3.

For the third straight match it was Jake MacKenzie getting the opening goal for Port Orchard. This time it came in the 17th minute when an onrushing Dominik Pajimola found Jake and the tandem beat the Bigfoot backline.

Derek Johnson plays for USL2 Bigfoot FC but let them know he’d be wearing POFC Marina Blues if the clubs ever met. So he suited for Port Orchard against Bigfoot FC 2 (USL2 club second team playing in CPL) and scored to make it 2-0 in the 26th minute when he created space, took a shot, and then followed the rebound with a resounding bolt into the net.

The match scoring was complete in the 35th minute when Finn Reynolds notched his first-ever POFC goal. The Bainbridge High senior who is headed to the Cal Bears in the fall perfectly timed a run to meet up with an equally stellar ball in from Johnson. Finn headed it home past the sprawling Bigfoot keeper.

POFC were featured late in the week in an article that appeared in both the Kitsap Sun and Yahoo! Sports. Journalist Jeff Graham highlighted the depth of the roster and the multiple player contributions. This was on display against Bigfoot. The club got solid minutes from everyone who played.

Port Orchard will continue to train in the new week but does not have another match until Sunday night June 29 when the club hosts WPFC Legends in another Rainier Division clash at 7 PM at Kitsap Bank Stadium.
