PORT ORCHARD WA—For all of our short existence it’s been there, holding the central spot in our crest…securing each side of our uniforms. Now Port Orchard Football Club is making it official: the club has a nickname, and it’s “Tall Firs.”
The nickname “Firs” has been suggested and submitted by POFC supporters over the years. Adding “Tall” as an adjective makes sense for a team that has won two trophies in three years and competed in three straight league finals.
Rooted in Kitsap. Reaching the stars.
Not only that, but Douglas Firs are known for their heights. In Seabeck there is a famous tall fir affectionately called the “Big Tree.” It’s estimated to be 800 years old and stands 250 feet tall.
Four of the ten tallest Douglas Fir trees reside on the Olympic Peninsula.
In Port Orchard, citizen Chris Hanson deeded his land to the government in 1938 so that Pine Road could be built off of Bethel/Burley. Once Pine was established, other crossing roads named after trees sprouted up with new homesteads. Eventually Tall Firs Lane was born. Homes were built there in the 1980’s.

We invite our supporters to fit “Tall Firs” into their vocabulary along with “PO” and “POFC.” In doing so you can help us remember the logging industry that founded multiple towns around Kitsap, including Port Orchard.
We live among giants in Port Orchard and greater Kitsap County. They stand with us and above us, Tall Firs reaching the stars.
